The Dreaded Dragon Witch of Mother's
Day!
![]() May 17th, 2011 Ok- I didn't just finish this rather silly, but daughter pleasing, project. In fact this particular costume had to be done by a very stupid half assed play designed at the last minute by a certain teacher who was upsatged by another teacher with their play a couple months earlier. I was told- by my daughter- a week before this stupid event that she needed a Witches Costume. In May? Seriously? WTF?!?!?! Ok, there was no time to bitch or whine, so I broke out my sketch book and decided that if she was going to be a witch, she was going to be a spiffy witch. So I talked to my Tara about it and she thought that a Dragon Witch- since the school mascot is a dragon- would be pretty spiffy indeed. A few measurements, a little bit of inspiration, and BAM! problem solved. So, first the drawing, then the numbers, then the pattern, and then a mock up. This mockup was made from red duct cloth- an old proffesional table cloth. And the pattern worked so well, that no changes needed to be made. Instant lining! The shell was some black, vaguely stretchy, no where near cotton, type material that I had lying around and the scale were made from a dragon scale material given to me by Missy Brianna! Now, I don't have a lot of picture of this particular project. Why? Because. That's why. Funny thing though, I patterned everything exactly as it shows in the picture above (well, almost) and it came out looking like swamp sludge dripping down an ill fitting, ill designed houpaland. So, I did a little reworking, treated the scales and teeth like piccadillis and BAM: ![]() ![]() So, I didn't get the hat done. I wanted to, but it didn't happen. Still- since the rest of the kids made their costumes out of paperscraps found in the classroom the day of, I can't really complain. My daughter was still the best dressed in the play :-) |
