A Pint of Cream

The Wedding Suit
June 18th, 2010

I got married. Once. 9 years ago. It was a nightmare.

To summerize: Dead lizards falling from the sky, crows falling out of trees, a wedding practically canceled by the guests, a cake that almost didn't show and an on the spot ordaining- thanks to the universal life church- because the individual who was going to show almost didn't. Oh yeah- the wedding feast set for 160 (which only ended feeding 10)- not showing up until about five minutes before the ceremony....

It's no wonder we both got drunk shortly after.

Anyways, 9 years later the wife and I (still very happily married despite the bad omens and the nasty wishes of people who would have given their right arm to see us fail miserably) were on our anniversary, in Las Vegas, at The Venetian, joking with all seriousness about eloping, when it dawned on me: Next year would be 10 years....

Now most guys in that position would run frantically away looking for some floozy to bang. But not me. I began to formulate away to hit the reset button on the wedding from hell, in hopes that I could maybe, I dunno, make my beloved happy?

So here's the plane...actually, here's the sketch first:

Wedding garb sketch

So now here's the plan:

White silk de chin shirt with gold "blackwork" around the collar and cuffs.

Doublet of white dupioni silk and white bridal satin. The dupioni sections will be embroidered in a diamond pattern with gold thread and each diamond will be embellished with a single pearl in the center. The Satin sections will be slashed. Epaulets, collar and piccadillies will match doublet, with the piccadillies and collar "following suit" with the section of the doublet. Doublet seems will be guarded by silver trim with gold accents. Closures of velcro (just kidding!)

Sleeves will be deeply slashed to below the elbow with each segment made from embroidered dupioni- white silk de chin interlining . Forearm of the sleeve will be of satin and slashed similarly to the doublet.

Cannons of alternating embroidered dupioni and slashed satin.

Hose of white silk.

Garters of the same trim on the doublet.

Shoes of white leather, slashed.

Hat of white silk shell, pearled and banded in silver and gold.

White velvet cape, connected with a gold chain (still debating on length at this time)

We're planning on redoing the vows one year from now, so that gives me roughly 9 months to get into shape and find the fabric before I really start stressing out over this totally unnecessary, nonsensical but completely enjoyable excuse to throw a party in Vegas. The hunt begins now though... that and the additional education I'm going to need to pull this off!

Well, hell. Another project put on the back burner. Sigh..... Atleast it will be nice when I finally get around to it :-)
